The North Peace region offers an abundance of opportunity for business investors, skilled workers and families with natural resources, four seasons and energetic people. The North Peace Economic Commission, on behalf of the City of Fort St. John, the District of Taylor, the District of Hudson's Hope and the Peace River Regional District Electoral Areas 'B' and 'C', welcomes your entrepreneural spirit! Bisected by the mighty Peace River, the Peace River Regional District is divided into the North and South Peace regions, together comprising almost one-quarter of British Columbia's land area. As 'capital' of the North Peace, the City of Fort St. John offers big city amenities with small community friendliness. With a population approaching 18,000, Fort St. John is the largest city in BC's northeast, and serves a regional population of 60,000 residents. Taylor lies on a broad plateau 200 feet above the Peace River at km 56 on the Alaska Highway. The District of Taylor strives to ensure that the community provides a positive and affordable alternative for the development of residential housing, commercial ventures and industry in the North Peace region. Electoral Area 'C' of the Peace River Regional District is bordered by the Peace River to the south and the Beatton River to the east. The area encompasses the rural land surrounding both Fort St. John and Taylor. Electoral Area 'B' of the Peace River Regional District extends fromthe Alberta border on the east, to the watershed of the Rocky Mountains on the west, and north to the boundary of the Northern Rockies Regional District. It is bounded on the south by the Peace and Beatton Rivers and is the largest area (9 million hectares) in the Peace River Regional District. Hudson's Hope is 90 km west of Fort St. John and 66 km north of Chetwynd on Highway 29. It is situated on the banks of the Peace River in the Rocky Mountain foothills. A high emphasis is placed on the quality of life, both humanitarian and environmental, making it a safe and inviting family community. Exploreres, fur trades and then homesteaders joined the First Nations here and settled this vast northeastern region of British Columbia with dreams of freedom and a better life. These same dreams attract people to the North Peace region. Newcomers find contemporary cultural and recreational community facilities and remarkable job and business opportunities. Lakes, rivers and the Rocky Mountain foothills provide a year round playground. Residents enjoy the four seasons and the freedom to chart their own destiny. Come share our northern spirit!
