The northeast area of British Columbia provides a great opportunity to companies and people involved in the exploration and development of the oil and gas industry. The relatively lightly explored northeast area of British Columbia is part of the geologic hydrocarbon bearing area known as the Western Canada Sedimentary (WCSB) Basin. The Basin contains the vast majority of the oil, gas and crude bitumen in Canada, and the area within the borders of British Columbia recently has been determined to have new undiscovered potential for crude oil, marketable gas and coal-bed methane. Large, world-class natural gas discoveries, a deregulated gas market, new markets in eastern Canada and the growing demands of the US market offer significant economic growth potential. The provincial government, through regulatory efficiencies, tax efficiencies and infrastructure investments, aims to double oil and gas production and stimulate $25 billion in industry investment over the next decade. As a result of over five decades of exploration and development in the North Peace region, the industrial service sector has distinguished itself by providing expertise to the oil and gas industry that must function in a challenging northern climate.
